Current Layout

Our new layout models locations from Norwalk, to Wilton, Bethel, Danbury, Kent, Cannan, Lenox, Ma and Pittsfield Ma with a focus on the Danbury yard including an interchange to Maybrook, NY

In 1852 the Danbury and Norwalk Railroad opened from Danbury South to Norwalk. The Housatonic leased the trackage in 1887. In 1892 the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad (the NH) leased the Housatonic trackage, and then bought the company in 1898 to create the Berkshire Division.

We model the Berkshire Division as if it had remained independent of the New Haven Railroad as the original Housatonic Railroad (livery HRY). We model and run trains from the fall of 1952. This was the transition era from steam power to the first diesels. We run steam locomotives such as the 2-8-0 Consolidation and 2-10-0 decapods. Diesels were rapidly replacing the steam locomotives in the 1950's due to their simpler operation and maintenance. Locomotives such as the EMD (Electro Motive Division of GM) GP-7's, GP-38's and SW-7's and ALCO C-425's and FA's. We try to keep to the 1952 timeline in the locomotive roster.

We also run electric trains from South Norwalk to Danbury as catenary was installed in 1925 (sadly removed in 1961). This allows us to run old NH EP2 and new NH EP5 (Jet's--which entered service in 1955.)

We run New Haven power from the large Maybrook, NY Yard over the Poughkeepsie Bridge to Danbury. From Danbury we run Housatonic trains north up the Berkshire line to Pittsfield, MA. Going south we run trains from Danbury to South Norwalk through Bethel and Wilton, the old Danbury and Norwalk line.

We have progressed to the point of having regular monthly operating sessions.

For anyone interested in getting involved, we are accepting new members. Feel free to find out more about our organization and contact us.
